A Grammatical Dictionary of Botanical Latin

 
lasi-, lasio-, -lasius,-a,-um (adj.A): in Gk. comp., wooly, hairy [> Gk. lasios, hairy, woolly, shaggy]; see wool-;

- lasiacanthus, with woolly spines or prickles; lasiandrus, with woolly stamens; lasiantherus, with woolly anthers; lasianthus, with woolly flowers;

- lasiobotrys, with woolly racemes; lasiocalyx, with woolly calyx; lasiocarpus, with wooly fruit; lasiocladus, with woolly twigs or shoots; lasiodontus, woolly-toothed; lasioglossus, with a woolly or hairy, or rough tongue; lasiogynus, with woolly pistil; lasioneurus, with woolly nerves; lasiopetalus, with woolly petals; lasiophlebus, with woolly veins; lasiophyllus, with woolly leaves; lasiopodus, woolly-footed,-stalked; lasiorhizus, with woolly root(s); lasiorhynchus, with woolly snout or beak; lasiosiphon, with wooly tube; lasiostemon, with woolly stamens; lasiostylus, with woolly style (Stearn 1983); lasiotropis, with a wooly or hairy keel.

- haematolasius, woolly with blood-red hairs; heterolasius, variously hairy; melanolasius, with black hairs.

Lasiagrostis. From lasios, hairy, and agrostis, a kind of grass. Gramindaceae. (Paxton) [note elision of connecting vowel before an initial vowel].

Lasiobotrys. From lasios, woolly, and botrys, a bunch of grapes. Helvellaceae (Paxton).

Lasiopetalum. From lasios, woolly, and petalon, a petal. Sterculiaceae. These are small bushy shrubs, producing an agreeable contrast in the greenhouse by their ferruginous leaves and woolly flowers.” (Paxton).

Lasiopus. From lasios, hairy, and pous, a foot; alluding to the woolly footstalks [i.e. pedicels] of its heads of flowers. Asteracece. (Paxton).

Lasiospermum. From lasios, woolly, and spermia, a seed; woolly texture of the seeds. Asteraceae. (Paxton).
